Specialist Materials
Lestercast can offer castings in a number of specialist materials including metals and alloys that have high temperature properties for use in a range of applications, and particularly suited to the production of thin wall castings for instance:
- Stainless steel
- Inconel
- Hastelloy
Stainless Steel
We are able to use Stainless Steel in applications where high-temperature oxidation resistance is necessary or where high temperature strength is required. In conclusion, its high-chromium content is beneficial for wet corrosion resistance as is its resistance to scaling at elevated temperatures.
Nickel Alloys
Nickel, in combination with other metals and materials, has led to some excellent alloys that are in great demand.
Two of the most common specialist alloys are Inconel and Hastelloy which belong to a family of nickel-based Super-alloys. Commonly, we use these in high-temperature applications and in environments that experience high-pressure. Conclusively, we commonly use these for many purposes including turbine blades and heat exchanger tubing, as well as Formula One (F1) and jet engine exhaust systems. Similarly, there are a number of variations but, generally, these alloys offer the following properties:
- 1800°F / 982°C oxidation resistant
- Excellent weldability
- Very strong nickel alloys
- Non-magnetic
- Outstanding corrosion resistance
